Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club - 15 March 2011

WGME held a golf day at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club designed entirely for the Beginner Lady Golfer. The format was played over 9 holes only and the format was a fun Scramble, giving the ladies a chance to experience a team format. Some of the handicap ladies participated with the teams and helped to give some advice on the rules and etiquette of the game.

The group of 24 beginners, had a great day with the help of WGME professional Sandy Meyer. It is so important for beginners who are progressing from the Driving Range to the Golf Course to be in an environment that is friendly, helpful and are with players of the same level. Nothing can be more intimidating and nerve wracking as when you take that first step onto the course. WGME provides this opportunity to ladies who are just starting out on the golf course.

Winning the competition was the team of Rachel Jones, Diane Rogerson, Tonita Marr and Angela Laidlaw. They managed a gross 44 for the 9 holes and with a team handicap of 7.2 they finished with a 36.8 Net. The team did well recording three gross pars on the nine. The placings for second and third had to be decided by a count-back over the back 6 holes, as both teams ended on the same gross of 46 and Net score of 38.8. In second place the team was Marike Dietrichs, Roelie Shultz, Helen McAinsh and Lorraine Carulli and in third place the taam was Anne Sinclair, Vivianne Flemming, Sue Markou and Heather Houston. Winning the Nearest the Pins were Heather Houston and Marike Dietrichs.
