Flanked on one side by the truly majestic Hajar Mountains and the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf on the other, each hole has been carefully designed to encapsulate the true beauty of the site. However it’s not just the naturally scenic location or the designers vision that makes Al Hamra a golfers delight but the lifestyle options with in the development and in close vicinity.
Under the banner of Al Hamra Village the facility comprises of Al Hamra Fort Hotel, The Al Hamra Town Houses, The Palace Hotel, Al Hamra Marina, Al Hamra Village Mall and some 3,000 freehold residential units from studio apartments to water front Mansions. Course designer Peter Harradine uses all the natural resources available to create a first class Golf Course suitable for any level of player from the seasoned professional to the annual player, with the careful placement of five varying tee options on each hole. Taking the accolade of “The First Taste Of Links golf in the Region” Al Hamra Golf Club really does justify the term. Built along the shores and rolling waves of the Arabian Gulf and around a large open water lagoon, whilst incorporating four sub lagoons.
The course routing follows traditional links design with the outward nine making its way out and away from the clubhouse before the back nine turns and heads for home, the results of which is a 7,325 yard Par 72 Championship Golf Course. Originally planned to be built on the slat flats bordering the waters edge, some five million cubic meters of sand along with some expert design and shaping have come together to create an undulating course. With playing surfaces rising and falling from plus one to plus eight meters above sea level, giving the design team the ability to create humps and hollows reminiscent of traditional links design. It is difficult to select a signature hole, with holes such as 3, 10 & 12 all demanding their fair share of respect from the golfer, the 18th however measuring 576 from the very back tee with the lagoon weaving in and out down the right hand side of the entire hole ready to swallow any slightly leaked shots, surely claims the distinction making it a daunting finish to any round.
THE ACADEMY The Al Hamra Golf Academy offers golfers and non golfers the perfect place to enhance or learn the game.
